چکیده

Diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae), has become the most destructive insect pest of cruciferous vegetables (Brassica oleracea L.) worldwide, and is a continuing problem especially in the southern United States. Because of inconsistencies in individual control methods, inefficiencies and time demands of scouting, and the lack of clear thresholds, current management practices emphasize the prophylactic use of insecticides. Numerous othermethods are available for themanagement of P. xylostella including host plant resistance, biological controls, cultural controls, behavioralmanagement, and judicious use of insecticides. Past experiencehas shown that alone, noneof these strategieswillwork sufficiently and insecticidemisuse and resistance issueswill likely continue. However, when used together, these tactics can complement each other and lead to a more sustainable system. Recent research focused on the molecular genetics and genomics of P. xylostella has dramatically increased our understanding of specific mechanisms controlling P. xylostella physiology and its interactions with plants. This has the potential to revolutionize the way we manage this pest. Here we summarize the natural history and ecology of diamondback moth and present options for its sampling and management. Additionally, we highlight recent research thatmay lead to amore integrated approach tomanaging this pest and the suite of other insect pests of Brassica crops.

Review of Natural History, Benefits and Risk Factors Pediatric Liver Transplantation

Liver or hepatic transplantation (LT) is the replacement of a diseased liver with part or whole healthy liver from another person (allograft). Human liver transplants were first performed by Thomas Starzl in the United States and Roy Calne in Cambridge, England in 1963 and 1967, respectively. Liver transplantation is a viable treatment option for end-stage liver disease and acute liver failure....

Plutella xylostella (Linnaeus, 1758) (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae): Tactics for Integrated Pest Management in Brassicaceae

In the first instar, the larvae enter into the leaf parenchyma and feed between the upper and lower surfaces of leaves creating mines. In the second instar, the larvae leave the mines, and from the second to the third instar, they feed on the leaves, destroying the leaf tissue except for the upper epidermis, leaving transparent “windows” in the leaves. Fourth-instar larvae feed on both sides of...

We report the occurrence of natural enemies of Plutella xylostela (L.) in organically farmed kale in Pernambuco, Brazil. Seven natural enemies were observed parasitizing or preying on larvae and pupae of P. xylostella--three parasitoids: Cotesia plutellae Kurdjumov (Hym.: Braconidae), Conura pseudofulvovariegata (Becker) (Hym.: Chalcididae) and Tetrastichus howardi (Olliff) (Hym.: Eulophidae), ...
